Eliminates the need for re-keying
|
ART enables a newspaper to extract content from its EPS or PDF adverts in a controlled and structured environment. The ART server is fed with EPS/PDF files, which are then processed to extract text, and provide a jpeg version, including thumbnail, of the advert for web publishing.
The ART server deals with text extraction from both EPS and PDF files, and in the event of an advert being a ‘scan’, the ART server will automatically OCR the advert.
The user interface to the ART server is accessed via a web browser, requiring clients to have only IE5 and the Adobe Acrobat® Reader to be installed on their PC.
Once each advert is processed, an operator is able to view it in the on-screen browser, and modify or correct the text if necessary.
For sites who have a large number of adverts or are combining multiple publications, ART can be set-up to view adverts by publication and/or classification to make the verification task more manageable.
With ART there is a huge time saving element for any publisher wishing to export to the web as most re-keying is eliminated and all the operator has to do is check the ads have processed correctly.
In addition the user can customise the browser interface in order to deal with composite adverts, such as recruitment ads.
By setting up a series of relevant fields (e.g. job title, salary, region, etc.) the user is able to simply drag and drop the extracted text of an advert into their own template, making each section of a composite advert searchable on the web.
The ART Server has templates for the Fish4 standards (motors, recruitment and property) configured and ready to use.
Once all adverts have been converted, and all necessary structure is extracted, the component parts are then packaged together so that they can be used within a web-publishing environment.
Adverts that have been processed are presented to the user with a range of output options to choose from. The advert is displayed onscreen when the user highlights the URN.
Choosing the text option will bring up the advert in the Acrobat® window. In this example the user is able to select the job titles from a composite recruitment advert and place them in a logical search structure for use on the web.
